Fri 1 Nov 2024
Globally acclaimed Pirie Sparkling from Tasmania has been awarded Best Sparkling and a Gold medal at the 2024 Royal Melbourne Wine Awards.
Pirie Vintage 2020 won the Dr Tony Jordan Trophy for Best Sparkling while Pirie NV took out a Gold medal.
Pirie Senior Winemaker Tom Wallace said the team are thrilled with these results. “Pirie only comes together through exceptional teamwork. From meticulous pruning and monitoring of the grapes in the vineyard, through to the critical tirage process in the winery. We are extremely fortunate to have a wealth of sparkling knowledge and expertise in our winemaking team.”
Pirie is one of Tasmania’s original producers of premium sparkling wine, named after the visionary viticulturist who boldly explored Tasmania's untapped potential for sparkling wine. Northern Tasmania is now widely recognised for the quality of sparkling wine produced in the true cool climate of 41-42 degrees south and today Pirie makes some of the most acclaimed sparkling wines in the world.
“Pirie is made from 100% Tasmanian grapes from our Kayena Vineyard in the Tamar Valley, Ben Pietsch our Viticulturist provides us with outstanding Chardonnay and Pinot Noir each year so we can continue to craft world-class Tasmanian sparkling wine.”
The Melbourne Royal Wine Awards is one of Australia’s oldest and most respected wine shows recognising and rewarding excellence in Australian winemaking.
These awards follow a very successful year for Pirie, with Pirie Late Disgorged Sparkling 2011 winning the new world’s best sparkling wine at the world’s most exclusive wine show, The Global Fine Wine Challenge late last year.
