Pirie Late Disgorged 2011 Named 'Best Wine in the World'
Fri 1 Dec 2023
The world's best sparkling hails from our very own Tasmania.
Pirie Sparkling Late Disgorged 2011 was this week honoured with both Wine of Show and Best Sparkling Wine titles at the world’s most prestigious wine event.
"Producing Pirie is an art in itself," says Senior Winemaker Tom Wallace. "There’s meticulous planning and patience required, and even then it takes crossed fingers in the hope of the ideal cool conditions."
Exclusive to New World nations, The Global Fine Wine Challenge is the world's top wine award, with participation by invitation only.
"To win Best Sparkling and Wine of Show against some of the finest wines in the world... it really is a great tribute to everyone involved in producing this wine; from the growers to our team in the winery, with Tasmania once again proving its quality on the world stage."
Combining aromas of fresh lemon curd and baked sourdough with a punchy palate of cool-climate acidity, the Pirie Late Disgorged 2011 is a testament to Tom's winemaking prowess — and his dedication to sharing the fruits of our labour, no matter how long the wait.
